Our niece Hailey (not to be confused with Auntie Haley, or my college friend Haley) turned 6 on Friday. I can still remember seeing her in the hospital in Detroit Lakes the day she was born! She is growing up way too fast. I think the fact that we see her only a few times a year makes it seem like she is maturing way too fast. She is almost done with Kindergarten! I was amazed how many words in her cards she could read. The teacher in me wrote some words down for her to read. She also was working on a story with my sister, who was the illustrator. She must have Writer's Workshop in her classroom, where they are making books. Part of me misses the excitement 5 and 6 year olds have with writing print!
Anyways, Jake and I went to Big Fish Lake to celebrate Hailey's birthday. Joe had to work, which was too bad. There were tons of presents to open up, as Katie's family was there, too. Hailey was in such a goofy mood opening her presents. She made out like a bandit. She loved everything she received, except for this cute cup that Meghan (Katie and Matt's friend) gave her. Apparently, Hailey DID NOT like the fact it had handles on the side, like a sippy cup would. Her face was worth a thousand words.

Hailey took both Jake and Paige in a ride in her Barbie Power Wheels Jeep (that she got at her 4th birthday.) It was cute to see her put her arm around both kids (they did go one at a time...don't worry!). She went on the slow speed. She even had to stop and check the engine when Jake went with her. She got out, popped the hood, fiddled around with something, and got back in. She is so goofy! Paige had a blast, too. Joe would have died seeing Jake in such a "girly" toy. Later in the day, Matt took all the kids one at a time, for a ride in the Bobcat. They all liked that! I have only one picture, which looks like Jake hates it! My dad took more pictures, which I hope to post later.

Hailey had a Tinkerbell ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. Yummy! Jake loved it, too.

Jake is learning how to go down stairs by turning around and going down on his tummy. He had a little accident yesterday. He must not have completely cleared the step and bit his lip. We did not realize at first that he did it. I panicked slightly, as this was the first time blood was involved in an injury. Thankfully, people around me calmly told me to have him bite on a wet washcloth. He was fine after a few minutes.
Jake and I came back after dinner time. I thought he would sleep in the car, but no such luck. He did go to sleep after having some milk. It was a fun day!
