Proud Mama

Jake amazed me at swimming lessons today! He did such a good job listening and doing what he was supposed to. This is a huge improvement from when we ended lessons last March in SLP. He was constantly screaming, "I want to go home! No, I am not doing that!" I was so embarrassed. I even had a friend from college in the same class with her little boy, to make it even worse! This was our third week of class through Shakopee Community Ed. I am extremely impressed with their program. The instructors are very nice and always have good attitudes. I like that skills build on each other. Our old program did not do that. Maybe that was why Jake did not like it? Jake did say he wanted to go home today, but it was when there were three minutes left of class. He must not like the "Fire truck" song they sing at the end. He also will not blow bubbles in the water! I am not sure why. He will "catch" mine...put his hand in front of my mouth as I blow bubbles. Hopefully, that will come in time. This week, the instructors said parents could take their child on the diving board and hand them to the instructor in the pool at the end of the diving board. I was not going to push Jake into doing this, so we just worked on jumping into the pool in the shallow end. Jake said to me, "I wanna go to the diving board!" Off we went. Jake "jumped" off three times! He probably would have done more, if there was more time. I guess the 1-2 times we tried this last summer in my parents' pool paid off.

Maybe Jake did so well today because he had an audience. Papa Knutson came down and went to lessons with us. Jake loved looking up into the stands to see a smile and a wave from his Papa. Hoping next week is another good lesson. So proud of you, Jakey!
